Ninja dishes on the future of gaming, community, and 5G gaming

#TeamGalaxy's own Ninja recently stopped by our Samsung 837 experience space in New York City to take on iKON and more challengers in an epic Fortnite throwdown. We took the opportunity to get his thoughts on the current state of gaming and what someone who wants to follow his path should focus on.

“5G is a huge part of my future right now. I’m actually super excited to see where it goes.”

The evolution of gaming has come a long way from its primordial past of pong paddles and Pacman. Today’s gamers aren’t content to huddle around arcade cabinets or television sets anymore—not only are they taking their passion out into the culture, they’re using it to shape the culture itself.

According to Ninja, game developers that listen to the community only stand to benefit from it. "A lot of games nowadays are so many different leadups to the actual launch of the game because they want to get people's feedback. I think the games that fail the most right now are definitely the ones who ignore players and streamers and content creators and YouTubers."

“Gaming is not going anywhere. It’s in its prime and it’s only going to get better.”

While Ninja feels gaming is in the midst of its moment, he still thinks there’s room to grow. “Give it one or two more years, but it’s still not quite yet like, ‘Oh, my son is the best football player on the team, but he’s not doing well in school.’ … Give it a couple more years.”

Getting other people—especially career-minded parents—to take gaming seriously is an uphill battle, but Ninja says it’s possible with a little strategy. Growing up, he’d use chores to bargain with his parents for more screen time. “Mom, I’ll do as many chores as you want, give me two more hours of gaming.”

And for those who want to know how to become a professional gamer? Find someone you admire and be better than them. “Pick someone who you look up to and if you think you’re funny, and better than them, then… do it. And be that."
